Uncharted Regions
Continuing my quest to find edits of the last half of season 8, we start with Uncharted Regions. This might be a bit divisive based on previous analysis of these episodes but... I'm just laying down what I saw, okay. You can call me delusional, that's fine, I have called myself delusional multiple times throughout this whole thing.
Okay let's start.
First odd thing I found was this cut here, as Keith and Lance are talking on the table:
[05:45]
Notice how the shot kinda lingers on Lance after he says, "I hope so." almost as if he was going to say something more. If that was the end of his line, why not cut to the next shot of Keith that we see. Why are we lingering here?? Possibly, either a line from Lance was cut, or Keith said something here to which we would get Lance's reaction. I think that's the real reason we were lingering here, cause we were supposed to get another reaction/line from Lance. Whatever was said would have flowed better with their conversation, because it goes from talking about Allura to all of sudden being about Honerva and what they should do to stop her. It might be nothing, but I found this very odd.
Next, we have Keith staring open-mouthed out the bridge of the Atlas:
[08:42]
He is not the one speaking here, Iverson is. Yet, it's incredibly odd to animate him with his mouth open as we start this shot. Possibly, Keith was saying something here before Iverson started speaking that they cut out.
And then... the next time we have a shot of the bridge... Keith is gone all of sudden...
[12:41]
Look, Ozar just died trying to tell them what she was doing, but they never get that information. Wouldn't it make sense to see Keith and Shiro discuss this to some extent?? or at least see Keith say what he was going to do next?? possibly finding the others or going to his lion?? something??? it just feels very anti-climactic and incohesive. Something was cut in between here. Either that or all of these bridge scenes were cut and pasted at different intervals. There are some shots while Keith is there where it kinda looks like he's not, for example this:
[08:42]
The angle could conceal Keith from the camera, so I'm not too confident on this one. We know no matter what that there exists two bridge scenes, one with Keith and one without, because we have that shot above of the bridge without Keith, despite never seeing him leaving (we also never see him enter...). Which one this one belongs to, I can't say. It just gives me a strange feeling...
And then we have possibly the funniest edit of them all.
ummmm Lance literally has Allura's face here:
And here...
[13:26]
Lance has eyelashes again all of a sudden... That is not Lance's face. This whole scene was edited. Lance replaced Allura, and Allura replaced... someone else. Most likely Lotor.
Then... we see something odd:
[13:34]
We get this shot of Honerva saying the princess has awoken. But... last we saw her, she was in her Mech, ready to jump to Altea's coordinates:
[11:15]
Why would she get out of her mech to say the princess has awoken, just to get into it again when we see her the next time??
[15:02]
Possibly that shot of Honerva saying the princess has awoken was taken out of context, or it is an old shot they re-dubbed with the new audio.
And next shot we have is the bridge and oh... look who's here again:
[13:42]
Oh hey, Keith... where were you last time we were on the bridge?? what were you doing?? where did you go?? and why have you come back with Pidge?? possibly, a scene between Keith and Pidge was cut in this episode, or a scene with Keith doing whatever it was he was doing away from the bridge.
And there's something else odd:
[14:41]
Lance seems a bit short here, doesn't he?? Allura looks a bit taller than both Keith and Lance, which we know she's not, from this screencap from Season 6:
[Season 6, Episode 6: All Good Things, 05:38]
In fact, Lance and Keith are equally tall, despite popular belief, because of this screencap from this episode:
So um, what's going on here??
Perspective-wise, both Lance and Allura should have been much shorter than Keith, because they are further away from the camera, but they're not, especially Allura. This might have been another instance of Lance and Allura replacing someone else...
Okay... then we have something very odd...
[22:46]
Look closely.
After Honerva merges with Lotor's ship, she creates a massive energy sphere, and we zoom out to this frame here. But... look at who's here.
The Blue Lion... But we never saw Allura go out to fight with them. In fact, this is the shot we get right after Honerva zaps energy from the Balmera:
And we see him again here:
And then we get this shot, where the Blue Lion has all of sudden appeared, despite us never seeing Allura join the fight
[22:46]
Something was cut here, in between these two sequences. Something happened to Lance, and Allura joined the fight, but we don't see either of those things at any point in the episode.
The Zenith
uhhhh, that is very clearly the silhouette of a Lion. And the only lion missing here is the Red Lion... since Hunk went back to the Atlas. WHAT is going on here ???
[03:21]
As if Hunk had taken a shot with his cannon?? This line seems very out of context to me, and may have been a reused line from somewhere else... Lance wasn't supposed to be here.
It is gone. Not only that, but Keith says he's going to stop Honerva.. alone. Ummmm Keith, didn't you just say you needed Voltron?? We also never see the full animation of him activating Black's wings, which we would have seen, since it's the first time Keith activates Black's wings without help from Shiro. It would have been pretty significant.
[03:31]
I can't say why this happens... I can only point out what's missing based on clues of cuts, even if I have a guess.
Okay... then in the sequence between 03:31-04:37 we don't see Lance a single time, nor hear from him, in the fight, until we get here. We also don't see Allura or the Blue Lion. In fact, the fight consists solely of Black, Green and Yellow, which is very unusual, given they are four lions at this point, not three.
Not only that, but Shiro says this:
[04:27]
This is very odd for Shiro to say. Forget for a moment that we've already seen Allura out in front of the Atlas in the opening of the episode. What is this Allura's chance to do ??? get out and join the fight?? why does Allura need an opening to do that?? she just needs to get out there! Keith said they need Voltron! Why does Allura need to have a chance to get out there?? it makes no sense. also why did it take her 3 minutes to get to her lion ?? usually, once a character is on their way to their lion, we see them within a minute, 2 minutes tops. See season 3, episode 2, where both Lance and Allura join the fight soon after getting their lion, despite having difficulties with them.
I suspect what Shiro says here indicates something else. Allura was supposed to do something else, something she couldn't do just because, something she needed an opening for. What exactly that is, I can't say, because it was cut from the episode.
Furthermore this shot of them:
[04:37]
is inconsistent with their usual style. Here you can tell by Pidge's face and Keith's hair (and all of their noses for that matter).
Okay, then we have really weird and jarring cuts here.
[5:30]
You saw that right?? very choppy and jarring cuts as we cut to the atlas and Honerva's robeast as well as when Voltron staggers back. We also never hear from Lance during this entire fight.
Furthermore, we have this splitscreen which has obviously been enlargened:
Hunk is almost entirely cut from the screen, and only half of Allura and Lance's faces are visible... Voltron's split screens have never looked like this. We hear Lance say "Why is she helping us?" but we never see his mouth move, because again, it's cut off. They cut someone out here from the splitscreen that they didn't want us to see... and they most likely just put an out of context line from Lance in there.
This shot of Keith in the Black Lion:
[05:47]
was also added, because he is drawn out of style, again... look at his facial proportions and the way his armour is drawn, as well as his body proportions.
[06:06]
look closely. The Altean robeast flies by, but then all of a sudden a blue light beam takes a shot somewhere close to Honerva. It just flies by her left, but it's not from Voltron, and it's not from the Atlas either. The Atlas threw a punch with their left arm, but the beam should have come from their right arm to match the angle, and Voltron is in the completely wrong spot to shoot a beam from that angle. Moreover, the Atlas is locked fist to fist with Honerva's robeast, as we see in the following gif.
Here, we also have Honerva spotting something to her left, presumably the screen, even though it shows her nothing. She starts panicking, yells, "No!" and then punches the Atlas as if she's desperate all of a sudden. But we never see what she is reacting to. It could be the lightbeam, but why does she react that way, since it didn't even hit her?? Where did the lightbeam come from ???
Furthermore, Honerva punches the Atlas directly in the face, where the bridge is. Shiro and the others should have reacted much more intensely than they do. They just kinda shake a little as if Honerva punched them somewhere else.
[06:18]
I mean, look at them. They look more annoyed and inconvenienced than directly punched in the face. This tells me all of these shots were cut together Frankenstein-style.
And then we have this jarring cut:
[07:19]
It feels like the shot of Hunk before he shoots was cut short. Possibly we were supposed to see him actually shoot at the rift, but I can't say for what aim. I think a whole sequence was cut out here actually, because then we see Atlas and Voltron out of commission, and we see Honerva standing in front of the rift, but we don't see why...
[07:44]
From context clues we assume that it is due to the rift opening, but I don't think so. Voltron is too far away and Honerva is too close to the rift for it to be that, compared to where they were right before the cut. Their positions have been switched compared to their positions as the screen goes black. Something was cut in between these two shots.
Okay... then we have these two wildly different shots of Allura:
[07:47]
You see it, right?
Firstly, her face is completely different in the second shot. Secondly, the window placement doesn't align at all. In the first shot the window encompasses almost the entire background, which suggests that she is near the front where it starts. But in the second shot, we see the tail end of the window, implying she's sitting in the back. This is very strange. They most likely traced over someone who joined Allura in the Blue Lion, or that person is sitting in a different lion from Allura.
Also notice how Lance isn't heard from at all, for looooong periods of time, and when he is, we don't see him speak:
